Techniques of Celestial Navigation<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This presentation explores the core techniques of celestial navigation, emphasizing the methods mariners use to determine their position using celestial bodies. It covers foundational principles such as the concept of the geographical position (GP), the circle of equal altitude, and the intercept method. Practical applications are demonstrated, including determining latitude using Polaris or the Sun at local apparent noon, and obtaining a position fix through sextant sights on navigational stars. La rotaci\u00f3n de la Tierra es ubicua en muchas aplicaciones de Astrodin\u00e1mica, Astronom\u00eda, Geodesia, etc. Nos introduciremos en este fascinante problema a trav\u00e9s de sus est\u00e1ndares actuales debidos a la Uni\u00f3n Astron\u00f3mica Internacional (UAI). Uno de sus principales componentes, el movimiento de precesi\u00f3n-nutaci\u00f3n, puede formularse como un problema de Mec\u00e1nica Anal\u00edtica. El Tiempo Universal Coordinado (UTC), establecido en 1970 y mantenido por el BIPM en colaboraci\u00f3n con laboratorios nacionales, es la escala de tiempo internacional de referencia, definida en base al segundo at\u00f3mico del SI y ajustada ocasionalmente con segundos intercalares para mantenerse alineada con la rotaci\u00f3n de la Tierra (UT1). Sin embargo, este procedimiento genera interrupciones que afectan los sistemas modernos de comunicaci\u00f3n, transferencia de datos, navegaci\u00f3n y redes de energ\u00eda. En respuesta a esto, se planean dos modificaciones futuras: una redefinici\u00f3n de la unidad de tiempo del SI utilizando transiciones at\u00f3micas \u00f3pticas para aumentar la exactitud en dos \u00f3rdenes de magnitud, y un cambio en el procedimiento de sincronizaci\u00f3n entre UT1 y UTC para asegurar la continuidad de UTC por al menos un siglo, eliminando la necesidad de segundos intercalares.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

A 4-hour workshop will be held for high school physics, geography, natural sciences, and technology teachers. The activity will focus on materializing the <\/span>reference coordinate systems in the form of naked-eye observations<\/span> in everyday teaching practice. This activity is free of charge and will be held at Facultad de Ciencias Astron\u00f3micas y Geof\u00edsicas (http:\/\/www.fcaglp.unlp.edu.ar)<\/span><\/p>\n

It will be led by Maria Silvina De Biasi<\/strong> (LOC member), and Mariela Corti<\/strong>, all Ph.D.s in Astronomy and members of<\/span>\u00a0the National Astronomy Education Coordinator (NAEC) team for Argentina at IAU OAE<\/em> <\/strong>(Office of Astronomy for Education).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Se dictar\u00e1 un taller de 4 horas dirigido a profesores de escuelas secundarias de F\u00edsica, Geograf\u00eda, Ciencias Naturales y Tecnolog\u00eda. La actividad se centrar\u00e1 en la materializaci\u00f3n de los sistemas de referencia coordenados a trav\u00e9s de observaciones a simple vista en la pr\u00e1ctica docente cotidiana. Esta actividad es gratuita y se realizar\u00e1 en la Facultad de Ciencias Astron\u00f3micas y Geof\u00edsicas (http:\/\/www.fcaglp.unlp.edu.ar).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
